DIRECT THE LIGHT UPWARDS
The best way to highlight your ceiling is to direct the light upwards. Follow our three-step advice.

Opt for indirect lighting, such as wall lights, whose luminous flux will highlight the moldings and cornices.

If you want to focus attention on the molded edges of the room, place a false ceiling set back from the peripheral walls with neon lights all around or LEDs that will directly illuminate the contours of the ceiling.

If you prefer a suspension , choose it open, also on the top, with a drum shade for example so that the luminous flux escapes from the top and from the bottom. We will speak here of mixed lighting. Avoid bell-shaped suspensions, an industrial type suspension that directs all the luminous flux downwards to leave your ceiling in the dark. Classic chandeliers with candle-shaped bulbs also distribute some of the luminous flux upwards.

Light cornices are also particularly suitable for enhancing a beautiful ceiling.

Consider placing lights with adjustable spotlights directed upwards on your furniture to accentuate certain areas.
EXPAND THE SPACE VISUALLY TO ILLUMINATE A LOW CEILING
The low ceiling parts, between 2 and 2.50 meters, may seem oppressive. But with some bright tips, you can spill the trend!
To overcome the lack of space, it is quite possible to use light to recreate a comfortable and cozy space that will make you forget that your room is so small. Certain types of lighting will help make your room appear brighter and more open, making it visually more spacious and therefore more appealing. For effective lighting in a room with a low ceiling, use light elements that will raise the ceiling: instead of fixing a chandelier that would come down from the ceiling, choose a lamp insteadon a stand which on the contrary will push the light upwards, which will give an impression of grandeur to your room. Different styles of floor lamps exist. For a more beautiful effect in a small space, opt for a rather minimalist style, without frills, which will know how to be discreet while providing an important, clear and warm light.
Adapted lighting must therefore visually push back the ceiling and be directed upwards. As with painting, the brighter and more illuminated the ceiling… the more distant it will appear, and therefore high! Therefore, favor all lighting directed upwards or indirectly such as table spots or wall lights with diffusers open at the top and avoid direct lighting. In this case, wall lights with indirect lighting diffusing light upwards are ideal. If your ceiling is 2.50 m from the ground, opt for a ceiling light. This type of luminaire is particularly suitable because it takes up little space. Spotlights on rails are also an effective solution to give a good distribution of light without encroaching too much on the available height.
Install smart lighting that won't get in the way: like spotlights on rails that match the architectural features. You can also place these rails vertically and direct the spotlights in several directions. Place hidden light sources such as light fixtures behind tall furniture or attached to a bookcase.
Another option: bet on lamps and floor lamps . Their height is adequate for low spaces. Again, favor models with mixed rather than direct lighting to let the luminous flux escape upwards.
Finally, for a more marked side, place adhesive LED strips along a few beams to create light beams and very decorative lighting.
DIRECT THE LUMINOUS FLUX DOWNWARDS TO HIDE ITS CEILING
To hide your ceiling, favor direct lighting with luminaires that direct their luminous flux downwards. Bell-shaped suspensions in metal or other opaque materials and floor lamps with downward-directing heads are perfect because they create significant shadow areas. Choose lamps with conical shades that allow little light to escape upwards.
Rather than a ceiling light, whose luminous flux tends to disperse on the ceiling, draw the eye to a fairly low hanging chandelier instead.
Avoid indirect lighting, such as sconces directed upwards, or spotlights directed upwards which focus attention towards the ceiling. The classic halogen floor lamp is also to be avoided.
ADOPT XXL LUMINAIRES WITH DIRECT LIGHTING FOR A HIGH CEILING
Cathedral living room or high ceilings: choosing the right lights is not always easy, especially in a spacious room. You have to be able to illuminate the entire area of the room and get around the drawbacks of a high ceiling (straightness, exposed beams, etc.). We take advantage of a high ceiling to install oversized suspensions: they thus occupy the empty volume, change the proportions of the room and bring a warmer atmosphere. Chandeliers are also particularly suitable, do not hesitate to suspend them quite low, the ideal being to have the bottom of your light source at about 2.30 m from the ground.
To revitalize a cathedral living room with majestic accents, you can modernize it by installing revisited chandeliers (which no longer have pendants) such as the models signed CLV (Création Val de Loire) which feature different shades (matte nickel, graphic colors such as black, brass color…) while retaining the charm of a more classic chandelier. Revisiting the old, with its high ceilings of 3.20 to 3.50 meters, means finding the right compromise between a model that will not distort the original style of the space and a touch of modernity.
